Direct answer

The best Agent Skill is the one that improves a clearly defined task in your environment with acceptable permissions and maintainable evidence. Start with fit, verify the canonical source, compare evidence levels, test narrowly, and keep an alternative or rollback path.

1. Start with task fit

Name the job, the inputs you can provide, the expected output, and the acceptance criteria. A Skill with a strong reputation can still be wrong for the workflow.

  • What decision or artifact should improve?
  • Which context must the agent receive?
  • Which actions require human approval?
  • What would count as failure?

2. Verify provenance

Check whether the Skill identity, owner, repository, path, and license point to the same canonical entity. Name similarity is not sufficient.

Prefer pinned source records and visible collection dates over copied instructions.

3. Compare evidence levels

Source facts, automated calculations, reproducible tests, editorial judgment, and user feedback answer different questions. Confidence should rise only when independent evidence agrees.

Look for evidence diversity

A page with two genuinely different value classes is stronger than a page that repeats repository metadata in several visual forms.

4. Review permissions and reversibility

Map every credential, network request, command, file read, file write, and external action. Then decide which can be removed, limited, simulated, or placed behind approval.

Static scans have limits

They can flag visible patterns but cannot prove runtime behavior, indirect dependencies, or hidden external systems.

5. Compare alternatives

An alternative can be another Skill, a smaller prompt, an MCP connection, a native platform feature, or no additional component.

Choose the smallest mechanism that solves the job without unnecessary maintenance or permission cost.

Frequently asked questions

Should I prefer official Skills?

Verified official ownership improves provenance, but task fit, permissions, documentation, compatibility, and testing still matter.

How many Skills should I install?

Install only what covers a real workflow gap. Overlapping instructions can create conflict, context overhead, and maintenance work.

033-architecture-diagrams

Use when you need to generate Java project diagrams — including UML sequence diagrams, UML class diagrams, C4 model diagrams, UML state machine diagrams, UML Deployment Diagrams, ER (Entity Relationship) diagrams, and bounded-context diagrams — through a modular, step-based interactive process that adapts to your specific visualization needs. This should trigger for requests such as Generate UML diagram; Create sequence diagram; Create class diagram; Create state machine diagram; Create deployme
